30 Historic Black Churches Receive $8.5M in Grants

The African American Cultural Heritage Action Fund at the National Trust for Historic Preservation is thrilled to announce its 2025 Preserving Black Churches (PBC) program cohort. This year, 30 historically Black Churches across the United States will receive a collective $8.5 million in funding to support critical preservation work from structural restoration work to enhancing stewardship planning.

The Black Church has been foundational to American history and culture. Through the generous support of our partners, we remain committed to ensuring the legacies and history of historically Black Churches live on for generations to come. Thanks to the generous support of Lilly Endowment Inc., the 2025 PBC round is receiving the largest collective grant award in the program’s history.

Visit the PBC program page to view past grantees, or sign up for emails to stay connected with the National Trust and the African American Cultural Heritage Action Fund’s ongoing work to protect and restore the places where Black history happened.
